Member Spotlight: June 2024

Allow us to introduce Pete Chemello, affectionately known as “Skeet Pete” by the NSC staff. Pete’s journey with shotguns began at the age of 12, when he first cradled one in his hands. Growing up, he shared hunting adventures with his father, creating lasting memories in the great outdoors.

Pete’s initiation into target shooting occurred when he joined the Northbrook Sports Club approximately 12 years ago. Initially drawn to sporting clays, he later shifted gears, becoming an ardent skeet shooter. His skills caught the attention of a winter skeet team, and he was soon recruited and hooked on the sport. In 2017, his team clinched a victory in the NSC Winter skeet league. Pete and Steve Hillesheim went on to win the winter skeet 2-man tournament in both 2022 and 2023.

But Pete’s involvement extends beyond the trigger pull. He now plays a pivotal role in organizing and managing all skeet shoots for the club including the Elite Skeet Classic, the Great Western, and the Club Championship. From promoting events to coordinating volunteers, squadding, and ensuring smooth participant registration, Pete is the glue that holds it all together.

What fuels Pete’s passion for skeet? It’s the camaraderie—the friendly banter, shared victories, and the joy of hitting those elusive clay pigeons.

When he’s not immersed in shotgun sports, Pete resides in Palatine with his wife and their five kids—two sons and three daughters. The Chemello family actively volunteers during skeet events, make sure to say hi if you see them!

And here’s a little secret: Pete is the oral surgeon for the Chicago Bulls, a role he’s held since 1989. While we can’t spill the locker room stories, if you’re curious about fun facts about your favorite players, just ask Pete in person. You might be surprised by what you learn!

So, next time you’re at the NSC, keep an eye out for “Skeet Pete.” And if you spot him at a Bulls game, strike up a conversation—you’re sure to hear some fascinating tales!
